I am interested in buying a early to mid 80's Targa. Would anyone know the signs of a good buy other than price and mileage?
Same as any other used car. Look for flaws in the paint / body, leaks underneath, odd noises, and see if everything works. If it passes that test then ask if you can have your mechanic take a look at it.

Also ask if it's a one owner car (usually better for straight info) and if it has a clean title.

BTW, a "good buy" is rather subjective. If you get what you want at a price you are willing to pay then it's a good buy.

If you want a good car just follow common sense and be willing to pay a bit extra if everything is perfect. (because the average used car is not perfect)
