Car won't start

Car won't start
Chevrolet..2003 Malibu LS..3.1 Liter..Automatic..112,201 miles..Live in Central North Caroline. When I try start the car it cranks but the engine doesn't turn over.

OK, the first thing that we will have to clear up is our car “terminology.” In general terms, “Cranking” & “Turning Over” are the same thing. Unless you are saying that the starter motor is running but not turning the engine? I’ll assume that is NOT the case though. I’m guessing that you mean that it Will turn over but it Won’t “Start.” If that is correct the first thing you need to do is to figure out if you are missing Spark or Fuel. Usually, the easiest way to do that is to give it a small shot of starting fluid and crank it. If it fires, you have spark and are lacking fuel. If it doesn’t fire, I always like to use a spark tester to double check to see if the spark is missing.

So, let us know what you find and we can guide you from there.
