99 hyundai elantra exaust
First thanks for all the help with my car. I probably would have pushed it off a cliff by now.
Second the flex connector on my car has fallen off and I am having trouble finding one to replace it with. So my question is is it that important or can I replace it with a piece of straight pipe?

RE: 99 hyundai elantra exaust
The flex connection is pretty important since the engine & exhaust move independently. Putting a solid pipe in there would likely cause something to break. If you can't find the actual OEM part, most parts stores carry universal "Flex" pipes. That would probably be better than a solid piece of pipe.

Please let us know what you find.

Thanks for using the forum,

RE: 99 hyundai elantra exaust
Just a suggestion, depending on your ability it may be easier to drive the car to a muffler shop and let them weld in a universal flex or fabricate the necessary section to mate everything with the new flex, which will be different than the old one. Make a few phone calls and see what's out there first.

Edited to add: 50% of broken flex pipes are due to worn engine mounts so if yours was not suffering from rust / old age make sure the engine doesn't rock excessivly under load.
