08 Jetta 2.5 rattle noise from valve cover area
My 08 jetta had a P0011code set a while back. I changed the cam sensor and also the oil pressure sensor. No help. Car ran fine. It has developed an intermittent rattle coming from fwd driver side of valve cover. It comes on for a few seconds up to a minute or so when driving slowly. As quickly as the noise comes on it will shut off like a switch. Sounds like a stick in a fan. Car runs normal the whole time. I tried to attach a 30 second video of the noise but the file is too large. I have a video posted on youtube under 08 2.5 Jetta engine noise. Car has 110k and full synthetic oil changes and maintenance has always been done. I`m curious to know if anyone out there has had this issue and any fixes that have been found. Thanks

Starting from the beginning, the P0001 code is an issue with fuel pressure control, NOT the cam sensor. Here's a link to an article so you can read up. It's more than I can absorb in a single sitting but it may help.

That said, a quick search on YT didn't show anything recent. Maybe you can post a link to the video instead of the video itself and I can render an opinion there.

Rupe you are correct. My code was a poo11. My mistake. I will edit my post. That being said, I saw a video on you tube where a damaged pcv valve was shown. My car is not showing the codes for a bad pcv but that is exactly where my noise is coming from. I'm wondering if a bad valve or torn flap in my pcv could be causing my noise. The noise never continues, it just comes on and the shuts off as quick as it starts. I'm wondering if my crankcase airflow thru a bad or torn diaphragm could cause this.

A bad PCV generally doesn't set a code unless it's totally stuck and causing too rich or too lean conditions. Even then it may not be enough to set a code. If it was buzzing you can put your hand in it and feel the vibration. Heck, they are cheap enough to replace it as a test and at almost 10 years old, why not?

Thanks for the response Rupe. I have ordered a pcv valve and will change it. I will keep the site posted on any and all fixed. Thanks again.
