Does not idle: Does not start without jumpstart
I have Jeep liberty 2002. Yesterday after filling up gas, came home and again started to go out. My jeep wouldn't start. I thought the battery is dead, so I jump started it. It started. But as soon as I removed my leg from gas paddle, the engine stopped. It can stay in idle position. Can anyone help me understanding whats going on please?

Sounds like a bad battery or poor battery connections. If you loose power at the engine controller or the battery is bad, it may not idle on its own. Replace the battery and make sure the cable ends are clean. That will fix it.

Thanks. But even it happened even when my car was connected to other car's battery. Any idea?

Yes that could happen. If your battery has a shorted cell it could happen. I,ve seen it happen.

Dodge is really bad about not running with a bad battery. They do not like the low voltages going to the computer. Try a battery first, then if it still does it we can go from there.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds.

RE: Does not idle: Does not start without jumpstart
Before you get a new battery you could try jumping it and hold your foot on the gas for five minutes around 3000rpm (if it'll run that long) see if it still runs when you take your foot off. I really drained battery in a dodge or jeep almost always needs the extra help for a jump. Also most auto part stores will do free electrical testing so you can bring in the battery/alternator or the whole vehicle for a test (be prepared to wait around for a while).
