Question '86 Toyota Corolla Surging Problem
I have a '86 Corolla with surging problem. It started a few months ago shortly after I gave it a tune-up and replaced the valve cover gasket. Now when I go to drive it I have to upshift about 10mph sooner than I typically should have to or it gives ya whiplash. I have replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, checked the timing belt and clutch. I am only a mech's daughter and am running out of ideas on where to look next. When I replace the plugs it does run beautifully for about 20 miles then goes back to the same.

Does it seem to lack power. If so it could be a restricted exh. Cat. conv. possably.

No it does not lack power. And I hope it's not the exhaust system. I put in all new from the manifold back less than 5000 miles ago. It still has get up and go it just gives you whiplash when it does. and smooths out a little when you upshift

I would have to tie in a fuel pressure gauge inline somewere in the fuel line and check pressure while driving the car under those conditions. I do not think there is a service port on the fuel rail so you would have to fit one inline.

I'll have to see if I can find some way to do that.

I went over the lists again and found that the carb needed some of the vacuum hoses replaced. Had to recover from surgery so made a mistake and let little bro help instead of doing them one at a time or marking them he just tore the hoses off and now atleast two of them aren't in the correct spot. I don't know what happened to my chilton's for it but don't have the money to replace it right now. I am trying to find a schematic for it that maybe I could print out or something to get them straghtened out.
