[split] transmission moved from other thread by way2old
I have a 95 Blazer S-10 4x4.My tranny fluid likes to disappear every so often.Roughly at six month intervals I loose two quarts and it starts to shift weird when going into overdrive. She cant make up her mind and shifts down and back up a couple of times, plus my reverse acts up a little by not going into gear immediately .It's extremely rare that it does this.I'm pretty positive its the fluid level doing all that,as adding fluid corrects the problem. I've smartened up to check the fluid level frequently too.
The mystery here is where is the fluid going? The transmission and undercarriage are'nt wet and my parking spot is dry. When I check the fluid,it's red with barely any discoloration.I bought the Blazer with the 4WD not working. Is there a possibility the transfer case is the culprit? It's not wet either. I've had the Blazer for eighteen months and it has'nt broken down or gotten any worse.

Thanks for any advice! Jeff

Sounds like the low fluid level is the problem with the shift concerns. Since it is ok when the fluid is full. Were the fluid is going, well other than leaking. The cooler in the radiator mixing with anti-freeze. Vacuum modulator sucking it into intake manifold. However, I do not think that one has a modulator valve.

try this- with trans full remove upper plug on tcase level should be at bottom of hole if fluid runs out(overfull) the tcase input seal is n/g (heres the rub) if the level is high its from trans -find vacum switch on tcase (driver side)1/2 way up next to front drive shaft pull plug off- got fluid? switch n/g atf lost to engine vacum you will have no visable leak -poss. white smoke from tailpipe the switch may also be why no 4wd note:index tit on switch
