Over heating
Year: 1996
Model: Legacy
Engine Size: EJ22E
Auto/Manual: Manual
Mileage: 134000

I have checked thermostat and it is good it will open and close when I test it during a boiling test. but when I install it in vehicle the temp goes all the way to hot. and the radiator hose going to thermostat is cold. There is also no hot air coming from heater vents. It is acting like thermostat is not opening. But like I said it opens when I boil it in a pot of water. What else could this be?

RE: Over heating
It sound like there is air in the system. I would look for a bleeder fitting somewere on the cooling system. If there is not one, you may try removing a heater hose and lifting it higher than the radiator and fill the radiator till it is full. That may purge the air out.
