Service engine light
Year: 2002
Model: Mercury Sable
Engine Size: 3.0 L
Auto/Manual: Auto
Mileage: 198,465

Auto zone scanned my car for the service engine light and told me that the light was for the gas rail pressure sensor. Is the sensor bad or the fuel regulator.

RE: Service engine light
Hi Pete,
What would really help is to have the actual codes. This is just a tiny part of the list of codes that have to do with the fuel system.

P0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low
P0088 Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too High
P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance
P0090 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit
P0091 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit Low
P0092 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit High
P0190 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0191 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0192 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0193 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input
P0194 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Intermittent

Although they mean well, most people don’t know how to interpret what scanner codes mean. If they get an O2 sensor code they tell you that you need an O2 sensor. In reality you might have a bad spark plug or a cracked exhaust. Knowing the codes could take a lot of guess work away.
To get a good idea of what is going on you need ALL of the codes even if they don’t seem relevant. Write all of them down and then have them cleared. Post all of them here so we can see what your car is telling us.

Thanks for the question. Please keep us updated, Garner
