Sad dies when wet?
Year: 1997
Model: mark 8
Engine Size: 4.6
Auto/Manual: auto
Mileage: 134,XXX

so when my car gets to wet from either a car wash or heavy rain it stutters out and dies.

I've checkd the spark plugs to see if water was getting in and theres no evidence of that. The car has no distribtor so thats not the problem.

I replaced the mas air-flow unit, and i replaced the housing/box for the air-flow system. theres no evidence of water getting in there either.

I had several people look at it and I've yet to find the problem, please help

RE: dies when wet?
If it dies when wet then chances are it's an ignition related problem. That means wires (if it has them) or plug boots, or coils / coil packs, or anywhere high voltage can leak out. Carbon tracking is fully like that and common on older vehicles.

Part of the answer is also related to what you do to get it going again, even if all you do is wait till it dries out.

The only thing I can think of not related to an ignition issue is an air filter that is so dirty that the extra moisture causes enough restriction to actually choke the engine.

each coil is conciled under a cover that i reseald with cilcone, the airfilter is new, so i guess ill check out the ingition, but it only happns when wet and when it drys the car has no issues...so i dont know i'm so angry and lost about this problem...

well a good way to find the problem is at nite of course make sure it is a dry one then take and open the hood start it up and then have a squirt bottle with just clean water in it and put it on misty spray and start to spray things like the coil packs and wires and then look for any kind of arcs / flashing as electricle shorts should be visable in the nite light oh yea no trouble lights or even hood lights either make it dark but please pay attention to not wearing any baggy clothing and pay attention to the fan and belts so you dont get injured trying to fix the problems and make worse one by getting injured ok .
