RE: auto trans
Most Chrysler products around that year make unusual noises as they shift. The old style solenoid packs came with a thick foam "sound dampener" around them because of the noise. The "update" solenoid pack was made quieter and did not require the foam dampener. They even made the noise going from forward to reverse or park to drive. If that is the noise that you are hearing, it is normal. If you have had the vehicle for a while and this noise just started, I would begin by checking the fluid. Refer to the owners manual for proper procedure for checking the level. Look at & smell the fluid when you pull the stick. It should be pink and not smell burnt. You could also have a scan done to check for codes. If you find any codes, record them all and post them here & have them cleared. If the battery was unhooked for any reason or went completely dead, your van needs a transmission "quick learn" procedure done with the scanner. This will reset the "CVI" values and possibly even prevent damage.
Please let us know what you find.
Thanks, Garner
