1986 GMC TRUCK 4x4 Wheel Bearing
I have a 1986 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 Sierra truck. The front driverside wheelbearing went bad and chewed up some metal. I was told I need a hub or spindle, something of that nature. I have a 1980 Chevy K-10 1/2 ton 4x4 parts truck. Will the spindle and hub interchange with these trucks and if so, how hard is it and how do i go about doing it. Thanks

RE: 1986 GMC TRUCK 4x4 Wheel Bearing
Short of disassembly for an inspection of the parts you can try calling your local salvage yard and ask them to look up the swap for compatability.
As far as explaining exactly how to do the job that depends on which style of bearings the vehicle has. A "bearing hub" type is fairly easy if there's no rust issues but recalling the early trucks have the older style and can be tricky if you don't have the proper tools. If you know how to remove the 4 wheel drive hub (the chrome part), wheel bearing and the brake rotor it's possible that's all you need. The spindle is the part that still sticks out when that stuff is off, and may be ok. |
