rushing air/waterfall sound from under hood, oil smell, smoke, now won't start
95 Honda Accord V6
237,000 miles approx.
new alternator 1 week old, battery 3 months or so, radiator hoses within year, radiator 1 1/2 years approx., completely resealed engine upon purchase approx 2 years ago, about 60,000 miles since, cam/crank shafts, valve cover gasket, both 02 sensors, water pump, timing, etc, etc.

We were driving down the road a little while ago, windows down, no a/c (a/c went out a couple months ago, my husband said it sounded like pushing air out of back of car, hasn't worked since), and hear like a rushing air sound or a heavy waterfall sound (kind of like when you let the plug out of an air mattress while lying on it) coming from car. Stop, open hood, gets louder, obviously coming from under there. We get the car home, sound lessens some as we travel, but can still hear it, about 5 miles to driveway, stop turn off car, open hood, large billowing of smoke, good while smoking, burning oil smell, and then the car wouldn't start back up, immediately or 5 minutes later either.

What's going on?

I'd start with checking to see what fluids are low and that will give you a clue as to which one was causing your smoke. Once you see what is low, find out where it leaked, then perhaps you can figure out what the other noises are. At that point I would take a deep breath and try to decide if a 16 year old car with that many miles is worth fixing.
