Sad 97 swift timing
I changed the water pump on my 97 suzuki swift, 1.3 L, 4 cyl. Well I moved it out of timing taking the crank pulley off. What is the timing procedure?Sad

RE: 97 swift timing
Align the cam mark and the stationary mark at 12 o'clock. Align the crank mark and the mark on the engine cover, it's just past the 12 o'clock position but not quite 1 o'clock. If you have a distributor this is the time to make sure it's pointing at the #1 position in the cap then install the belt. Do two rotations of the crankshaft (clockwise) and stop again on the marks to be sure everything still lines up and then tighten the belt tensioner. If you are not sure of the proper belt tension just grab it between two fingers at it's longest free point and twist. 90 degrees of twist is about right. Tighter than that will make noise and wear things out. Loser than that may cause it to jump time in the near future. The two rotations of the crank before tightening the tensioner bolt usually puts you right on the money but always worth an extra minute to double check.

Let us know how you make out.
