2005 PT Cruiser Limited Edition
Hi I have a question 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Edition 2.4L Turbo miles and trannie unknow. My sister just bought one of these and my question is being that it is a turbocharged car is there any care that needs to go into to help extend the life of that expensive turbo Other then good oil and changing it like clockwork. I remember when I was in the auto repair loop we messed with 1980s 2.2 Turbo Chryslers and I remember one thing about them if u were out and were under boost when u got ready to turn the car off u had to let it idle for a min or 2 to keep the turbo from being starved for oil now I know this was 20 years ago things have changed but thats why I am asking I dont know and the turbo part alone is $1500 for a reman unit and they werent fun to change in the 80s style I imagine there worse now so I wanna avoid that

RE: 2005 PT Cruiser Limited Edition
The same rules still apply with a turbo, although most have additional water cooling these days so it's not as critical. Basically the water cooling takes away enough of the heat during normal driving so the oil doesn't coke up in the return passage to the crankcase. That's what restricts the oil flow. OTOH, get some lead-foot kid to flog it around the block on a regular basis then park it right afterward and you may still have issues. For the average person, just use a good grade of oil and keep it clean and you should have no real problems in this department.
