cant figure out why heated seat on drivers side works on low heat setting only

The most common issue with heated seats is the wires (heating coils) break over the years due to flexing each time someone sits down. It works similar to a 3 way light bulb where one coil is on for low and two coils for high. There is no "fix" other than replacement of the heating coils, which are situated in a pad like deal (similar to a matress pad) under the seat cover. Usually the part is a few hundred bucks... and then there's the labor to take the seat apart and reassemble everything. I went looking for such a replacement on a 2002 GMC Denali last year and even at that age they are as scarce as hen's teeth. OTOH, if you are really determined to get it fixed you may check with a good auto interior shop. They may have a connection in the aftermarket for older applications. My local shop was able to find one for the Denali even though the dealer said it was too old.
