car cranks but has trouble firing up
I have a 2001 Durango that's having a problem starting when it's sat for a few hours. After about 5 seconds of cranking and a tap on the gas it fires up. It also starts fine when it's just sat for a few minutes, or sat for a day or two. I just put a new battery in thinking that was the problem with no luck. Threre's also a strong gas smell when it starts. What's wrong?

OK. I have a few questions that might help us to help you.
Why did you replace the Battery? Was it cranking sluggish? Kicking back? Some other reason?
Also:
What Engine? What Transmission? Mileage? What are your current weather conditions?

After knowing that it would also help to have the computer scanned. Record all of the code NUMBERS, post those numbers here for review, and have the computer cleared. Any code that returns will likely be related to this problem.

There are many things that it “could” be; fuel filter, fuel pump, leaking injector, temperature sensor, and so on. Having more information could save a lot of guessing.

Please get back to us.

Thanks for using the forum,
Garner
