Chugging

Hi,

Gotta Passat 07 1.9tdi . On a level road at say 40mph coming to a red light. I leave the car in say third gear and footoff the power....the car seems to be still getting limited petrol...she begins to chug intermittantly? Car just seviced new fuel pump...issue remains. 73K miles regularly serviced ....clockwork for last 7 months with 1K miles a week?

What are likely causes and costs to repair?

Regards,

fonaspin

RE: Chugging
Don't work on VWs on a regular basis (unless they are 60's-70's vintage) but if memory serves me correctly doesn't TDI stand for Turbo and Direct Injected? IOW, a diesel?

Given those thoughts I would suspect either a sticky throttle linkage or something hanging up in the injection pump. It would be hard to guess on cost till a proper diagnosis is made.

Another question in my mind would be about engine RPM at that speed / gear selection. IOW, if the RPM is too low then there may not be anything you can do about it other than to select a lower gear. OTOH, it may be something simple like engine mounts starting to show their age so you feel it as a minor surge as the engine get closer to idle speed.

It might be worth asking for a professional opinion locally and posting again here after someone goes for a test drive. We certainly can't fix all problems via remote control but we can help you with a direction once we have more info.

RE: Chugging
My first question man is a simple one, when was the last time you changed the oil in your VW? a bud of mine had the same problem, hadn't changed his oil in 12K miles. it'll do it. hopefully its something simple brother
