power steering belt squeak

Sad power steering belt squeak
I have a 1992 toyota camry 2.2 L, auto, I just install a new power steering belt and I tighten it. The problem is, every time i turn left or right all the way, it make a squeaky noise. What cause this to happen? How do you correct it.Sad

Most likely it's not tight enough. The proper tension on those "flat belts" is to grab the belt with 3 fingers at it's longest point between pullies and twist it. If you can go more that 90 degrees you need to snug it up a little. On a standard V belt it's about 1/2" of deflection using moderate force. The other common issue is there's oil / dirt on the pulley. Spray the pullies with brake parts cleaner while the engine is running and see if that helps.

If neither of these works for you then post again. We will talk about other less common problems.
