Gas tank fill pipe
2006 Mazda Truck Tribute 4WD 3.0L SFI DOHC 6cyl
When I fill up the gas tank the pump nozzle constantly trips off and the tank is not full. I asked Mazda dealer about this. He said the gastank filler pipe has a lining which has developed an air bubble causing the shut-off. They can fix for $400.00. Is this correct or is there a fix?

RE: Gas tank fill pipe
Proper diagnosis is the key to any GOOD repair.

What I would do is pull the filler pipe for inspection. It should be obvious if you look closely.

BTW, a common problem with these newer (read: smaller) fill pipes is a clog due to something being caught internally. Over the years I have found all sorts of stuff from those foil seals on dry gas / fuel additives to a piece of siphon hose. You never know what you will find till you look.

Let us know what you find. It may help someone else!
