Sad crank, but no start
I have a 2005 scion xb automatic transmission. I made it to the driveway one morning. Then I turn off the ignition. After that I try to start it. It crank, but won't start. Then i open the hood & started to check the battery, it's draining voltage & not holding a charge. what is it that cause this problem & what do i need to do to start up my car to run again. what's the problem? Is it a bad battery or alternator or is it both?Sad

RE: crank, but no start
If it cranks slowly I would start with a known good battery and go from there. It's next to impossible to do a decent diagnosis without a good battery.

RE: crank, but no start
Always start with the basics. Does it have spark? Is it getting fuel?

If it tries to start with a little shot of starting fluid it tells you that you have spark and you're not getting fuel. Check fuses, relays, gas filter, and listen for the pump to run when the key is turned on.

If it doesn't try to start you need to check for spark at the plugs and trace the problem back if there isn't any. Check fuses, security system, coil(s), etc.

I would also check to see if there are any computer codes stored. If there are, post the code numbers here for review & have the computer cleared.

Thanks for using the forum,
Garner
