Ignition/Fuel system
97 Isuzu Hombre, 2.2L 180000miles. Started happening when I put it in neutral while slowing down, the truck would shut off. Twice it has shut off while driving at constant speed. The truck did not lurch, I just happened to notice, while my foot was on the gas pedal, the speedometer was going down. I turned the truck off, and back on, and it was fine. Replaced the fuel lines and filter. Let it run for about 20 minutes, in neutral, and it shut off. Put two bottles of Techron, a fuel system cleaner that we were told is the same as GM uses, and ran it through. Gas tank is full. A few months ago we replaced the ignition, and it was fine. Not sure if the coil needs to be replaced, if this is an ignition problem, or a fuel system problem.

RE: Ignition/Fuel system
Unless the check engine light came on to signify a code in memory that a scanner will pick up you will need to catch it when the problem happens. It's either going to be fuel or ignition at fault but if it starts right up again it will be tough to pin down. A wild guess based on mileage is the fuel pump's starting to fail, and that usually will not set a code. OTOH, sometimes it will set a code for multiple cylinder misfire. Might be worth a scan just to see.

Hint: turn the key on and listen for the pump before cranking the engine. It should run for 2-3 seconds. If it sounds louder than normal that will be the first clue.

Let us know what you find. It may help someone else.
