2001 dodge darango
have a darango when locked in 4 wheel drive and i turn from the 12 oclock position to the 10 or even the 2 position the front wheels bind up on ice, snow, or off road looked under the vehicle and everything looked good and axles are tight no clunking when in 2 wheel when turning was thinking ring and pinion gear, or something in the transfer case but only acts up in 4 wheel.

help where i can leave the rest up to the everybody else

RE: 2001 dodge darango
The most common issue with 4wd is about tire size and ALL TIRES being the SAME size and the SAME brand.

That said, are the tires stock or large enough to rub on the body during turns? Has the suspension been modified?

The next question may require a lift or at least 4 jack stands.

Do the front CV / U-joints on the axels bind up on turns?

If it hasn't been in run in 4WD for a long time and it has "free wheeling hubs" this may be the case. You may actually have to get it into 4WD and then rotate the wheels by hand to find out where the problem is. (and have a good eye)

Edited to add: In 2 WD the front wheels turn but the axels, front dif, and front drive shaft so not. This is where you you should concentrate your "good eye" for diagnosis. In the case of "auto hubs" (I believe that has them) you need to pay attention to when the axels are engaged and when they are not. Turning the drive shaft by hand should put them "in" and they may go "out" again if you only turn the tires. (hint: once the hubs are "in" only turn the tires in reverse to feel for hard spots) If you can put the transfer case in neutral at this point that will isolate everything from the trany ityself.

Let us know what you find as it may help someone else.
