Data Distance Error 2001 Lincoln Continental
I have a 2001 Lincoln Continental, the abs light is on and traction control off light is on, due to some metal ring with ridges that was broke so I had it removed. I now need a hub bearing so I was told! They dont sell that ring seperately... But now I have seen a new message saying Distance Data Error causing the steering wheel to tighten up... Also the car randomly cuts off some times Im not sure if these problems are related! Please Help... Can it be fixed?

RE: Data Distance Error 2001 Lincoln Continental
Most likely related problems here because those rings on the back of each wheel send info to the computer of how each tire is doing on the road. (slipping versus traction) When the readings vary from normal that's when traction control or ABS kicks in and does it's job. Basically all the computer sees at the moment is one wheel not turning so it thinks you are sliding on ice or skidding with one wheel in the gutter. Without that ring the whole system goes on the fritz and the car may not be safe to drive.
BTW, beware of inexpensive aftermarket hub bearings. Some will fail early in my experience, causing you to do the job again in a year or so. Expect to pay near $400 for the part plus installation and more for an OEM part. |
