From what I can remember I would agree with Rupe. If the ECM commands the TCC on it would show “On” on the scanner. If the ECM command is “On” and the TCC doesn’t engage the ECM looks at Input and Output sensor data, determines a “Gear Ratio” error, and turns the CEL on. If it isn’t “Commanding” on, there would be no gear ratio error, & no CEL. That would lead back to finding out why there was no Command; i.e., Brake light switch, speed sensor error, temperature sensor error, faulty ECM. So you wouldn't want to change a transmission to find that you have the same problem and a much smaller job will fix it.
