Question 1991 bmw 325i engine has no power?
i have no engine power. streight 6.car starts on first turn of the key.
idel is at 1000rpm seems a little high, but this is my first bmw. it has no power, you have to floor it to get up to speed. i did a compression check all cylenders have 100 psi.it doesent smoke, does not leak anything, no water in oil and no oil in water. took cat. off to see if their was a restriction but car runs the same.no power please help.

The compression seems a bit low. My gut feeling (without more info) is there's a cam timing issue and you may need professional help.

Perhaps you can tell us more about the car? (engine displacement, standard or auto trans, etc) Is the "check engine" light on?

Yea,
I agree, crank/cam timing. Possable clogged exhaust/cat.conv.

not sure what the displacement is. it is an auto trans. and no the check engine light is not on. but it does work.

OK the displacement is 2494 cu.cm. i did another compression test and did it right this time. it is 120 psi.
i think cutting the cats off was a bad idea. i started looking and their is only about 3 1/2 feet of pipe and it might not have enough back pressure to run properly. as i stated before it is an auto trans. check engine light works but is not on. know what do i do.

If it has no cat. conv. I would look towards timing.

120 psi for compression is still low in my book. I'd be looking toward 150 - 170 psi without even checking the factory spec. This assumes the engine has been run recently and is not stone cold and not been sitting for days / weeks.

When you had the fuel filter off did you try to blow through it? If you can't blow through it easily you should replace it. (easy = like blowing through a straw)

Speaking of straws, we might be grabbing at straws because you may have more than one problem as is typical of an older vehicle.
