Mysterious scraping noise???
Mysterious scraping noise???

04 odyssey with 100K miles.

Hoping someone here can help me. This morning as I pulled out onto the road, I noticed a scraping noise coming from the rear. Immediately suspected that it had something to do with the brakes.

However...I also noticed that if I would hit a significant bump (like a railroad crossing) the scraping sound would go away??? Drive down the road a bit, hit another bump and the sound was back???

Also, applying the brakes makes no difference...if it is making the sound when I apply the brakes it still makes the sound and the same if it is not making the sound.

I'm going to take it in tomorrow and have the rear wheels pulled, but wondering if it might be something else.

FYI...I live in Ohio...although the car is garage kept, very cold last night and snowed yesterday with tons of salt on the road.

RE: Mysterious scraping noise???
Since you live in the salt belt (read: prone to rust) I would suspect something has rusted through or broken free and rubs on something else from time to time, such as a brake dust shield or similar. Could even be the tail pipe. Once it's on the lift for an inspection it will probably be obvious.

Let us know what you find as it may help someone else.
