2001 gmc jimmy water pump 4.3l v6
Mr rupe where are you I need your 4.3l expertise.
ok found out that my water pump went out today, I had to remove the water pump, pump pulley, fan, and the fan clutch as 1 piece. On this pump it has a piece about 2 inches long and well over my largest wrench which is 1 1/4 inch open wrench. This piece screws onto the water pump and then the fan and clutch screws into this piece I have went thru hell and back today trying to remove this piece. Was told by a dealer mechanic that it could only be removed using an air hammer. Have you heard of this and any help and suggestions that you could give would be well appreciated ty

Rupe went on vacation. Come visit us in the Moderator section and you will see his post.
If you are talking about the large nut that holds the fan clutch to the water pump, I always use a large adjustable wrench. I do it in the vehicle while the pump is still mounted to the engine. I suppose you could hold the pump in a vice if you already have it out? Check to see if the threads are right or left hand, I’m pretty sure that they are right. Fit your wrench and smack it a couple of times with a hammer. Once it breaks loose you can usually spin it the rest of the way off with your fingers.

Please let us know if you get it.

Thanks for using the forum,
Garner
