wiper failure 2009 volkswagen golf
i have a 2009 volkswagen golf and i had just finished cleaning the snow off my car. i hopped in and turned on the wiper blades and saw there was still snow and ice on them. Stupid me grabbed the windshield wiper while the motor was still running and it stopped moving. Now the motor runs but the wipers dont move. They are not stuck in one position, i can move them freely with a bit of tension on them. how do i fix that?

RE: wiper failure 2009 volkswagen golf
You need two things... to be handy and to have good luck.

The handy part is removing the wiper arms then the grille area below that to expose the wiper linkage. If you are lucky the linkage has come apart and you may be able to pop things back together. The connections are a bit like a ball & socket so look close and see if you can figure which part goes where. If you are not so lucky the gears in the wiper motor have broken. Typically, with the grille area opened up you can switch the wipers on and look to see if the small arm on the wiper motor is moving. While poking around also check for any broken parts that may have fallen to the bottom. If none are seen the there's a good chance to pop things back together. Use a few drops of motor oil or grease on anything that moves and try it before reinstalling all of the parts. If all is ok then reinstall the grille and wiper arms. If you find broken parts then a trip to the dealer is required, although the motor itself should be available at automotive stores for a lower price.

Let us know how you make out.
