Cool 2002 BMW 540i No air comes from vents
:cool:Hello when I went to work one morning my air conditioner worked fine. When I got off from work and cranked my car no air came from vents. So I lissened to hear if the compressor came on and it was running. Inside at the a/c control panel everything works fine but their is no air blowing from the air vents. What going on, can anyone help?Smile

Most likely it's blowing from the defroster, in which case you probably have a vacuum leak (hose off?) or some sort of failure of the dash controls.

New safety regulations of the last 20 yeasr or so dictate that any failure of the system makes it go to the deforoster for clear vision.

I can't give you any other quick fixes beyond checking the fuse box and vacuum lines but I'd bet the local dealer can find the problem in under an hour. (plus the actual fix)

Well their is no air blowing from the defroster either when I turn the defroster on. know air from anywhere but the compressor runs and the lights and buttons on the control panel work also.

If you can hear the blower running but no air comes out there's a problem with the linkage and doors within the heater box, or perhaps a blockage of debris within the fan itself.

If you don't hear the blower running you need to start with the fuses and double check for power at the blower motor itself. Also check for a good ground for the blower. Presuming the fuses are good it's down to either a blower motor or the blower switch.

Can't hear or fill the blower at all, but when I press the max button and other buttons I can here the system sounds like opening doors and closeing doors. Also do you no where I can fine some online walk through diagrams showing how to change the blower switch. I think I am correctly checking the fuses, the wire on back of fueses are not broken so I assume they are good fuses.

Have you checked for power and grounds with a test light at the fuses, switch, and motor? Obviously the fuses and motor are going to be the easiest to test because the switch is in the dashboard so do that before tearing things apart.

One of the other moderators has good access to diagrams and such if it comes to that. Just let us know if you need them.

I'll use my tester and try and get to the switch and check the fueses. I'll probably need the diagrams to if you could email or tell me how would you get them to me?

BMW doesn't do anything simple. Here is a link that may steer you in the right direction. Hope it helps. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthr...p?t=143393

Thanks Retired, that was a great article on the problem.

I was intentionally skipping that part till we found out where the power stopped but you filled in the blanks very well!
