RE: 1990 silverado transission
What are you trying to convert?

If you mean you have replaced the trans (came from another vehicle) and the speedo hook up needs to be adapted (early is cable speedo) it might be as simple as pulling out the old drive gear and stuffing the electronic one back in it's place. OTOH, depending on the style you have the gear on the trans output shaft may need to be changed over to do that.

Heck, it's been over 20 years so forgive my memory.

If you pull the speedo drive out and the other trans has a magnetic speedo transducer then you need to pull the tail shaft off the trany case (5 bolts) of both units. Once the shaft is exposed you will see the gear and the cog. Just remove the snap ring and swap the parts from one to the other. Also notice there will be a small ball bearing that keeps the gear from slipping on the shaft. Stick that back in place then slde the parts together, keeping everything clean, then install the snap ring again.

Let us know how you make out.

Turns out there are more problems than just this.

That really doesn't give us a lot to go on to try to help you. If we had some details we might be able to provide with some kind of advice? Rupe has a whole fleet of GM's & I used to work in a transmission rebuild/repair shop. Can't promise anything but we just might save you a buck or two?

Thanks for using the forum,
