starting problem
1995 Chevy Silverado, 5.7 V8 4x4 auto,267,000 miles. Colorado. When I put key in ignition if the alarm does not sound the engine turns over but won't start. Flipping the key over sometimes helps. If the alarm sounds it starts right up. I replaced the lock cylinder but still have the problem. Should I replace the lock housing or the actual ignition switch.

RE: starting problem
I have to presume this is NOT the factory anti-theft system because the OEM system didn't have a "noise maker" attached to it. With anything from the aftermarket being an issue this many years later you'd be better off completely removing it because there will be no parts available. Once that is out of the way you may be better able to diagnose the problem.

Hint: usually the aftermarket systems are spliced into the ign sw harness and connections look rather home brew compared to any OEM wiring.

BTW, the ignition switch is lower down on the steering column under the dash. It's connected to the tumbler by a linkage rod.
