2001 Pontiac grand am window regulator
Hello, I was having some problems with my grand am a while ago and y'all helped me quite a bit. I ended up having it towed to the dealership and they replaced the water pump and fuel pump. It still overheats when it's ideling, but while I'm driving the temperature stays around 200. I don't have the cash for antifreeze, so I filled it with water yesterday and drove about half an hour. Temperature stayed at 200, and it was ok. I do believe I need to check the thermostat. I just wanted to fill you guys in, you were very helpful. I do need some more help though. I had my window down and went to roll it up. As I did it sounded as if the window slipped off of something and fell to the bottom? I'm trying not too sound ignorant but I'm still learning about cars. How difficult is it to take the door panel of my car? Would anyone be able to write me through taking the door panel off?

RE: 2001 Pontiac grand am window regulator
If you do a search for "window regulator" you can probably find a U-tube video that would be easier to understand. If I find some time later, I'll hunt one for you.

I also want you to think of how expensive an engine is compared to 2 gallons of antifreeze. If the water freezes and cracks the engine block it will be way more expensive. Antifreeze is also an anti "boil" product. I'm not sure why the garage that changed the water pump didn't put antifreeze in it and make sure that it wasn't overheating? It sounds like the fan might not be running when it's supposed to?

I'll check back when I have more time. I hope this info. gives you a place to start.

Thanks for using the forum,
Garner

Here's a link to YouTube for window regulators and door panels. Pick the one that seems close to what you have and watch it. They probably will not tell you how to fix it but getting in there is half the battle. The great thing about "door work" is the broken parts are generally right there on the bottom. The hard part of door work is the limited space to do things.

BTW, you probably don't even need a full two gallons of antifreeze. If it's a 4 cylinder engine then one gallon would do it. What are we talking, $10 to prevent a freeze up that can crack a block?
